Could it be Satan?

Church Lady, the character that asked the question "Could it be Satan?" might suggest that the Internet is a terrible place. I take the balanced view - it can be a terrible place (hence the reference to Satan) or it can be a terrific resource. I thought I would take a break from field trip reports to share some of my favorite web sites, including blogs. Here they are:

Altitude

A blog by my seminary class mate and one time ministry partner, Bud Brown. We taught junior church together, along with John Stover, at Mesquite Bible Church. Bud is now ministering at The Heights Church in Prescott, AZ. It is one of the 10 fastest growing churches in the US. In the last couple of years they have gone from a church of 700 to a church of 2500 people, all crammed into a building that feels crowded at 700. God is doing something visible there.

Challies.com

How can you not like a blog that has a tag line “Putting the fun back in fundamentalism”?

Bible.org

Though technically not a blog, it is one of the first places to check when you have a Bible question. Their Pastoral Helps section is a gold mine for pastors and church leaders. It also has illustrations, articles and Bible studies on most of the Bible.

Pastor Hacks

A wealth of information and tips that aren’t easily categorized. Some of it is time management related, some of it speaks to people skills. All that I’ve read so far has been good.

Biblical Christianity

Quotes the Greek New Testament and Jack Bauer with equal abandon. I was hooked from the first time I read it. Its also about as succinct a self-description as I’ve seen: “Calvidispiebaptogelical. One God, sixty-six books, five points, seven dispensations (+/-), five sola's, one wife, four children, four cats, no fooling.”

Mark Dever

The pastor of Capital Hill Baptist Church’s blog. He quotes Spurgeon with enough frequency that I want to have lunch with him and reads widely enough to thoroughly challenge me.

Dr Constable’s Bible Study Notes.

I have to confess that I slept through way too many of Dr. Constable’s classes while in seminary. My explanation is that I was working full time, going to grad school full time and raising a family full time – I had to make time for sleep somewhere. That said, he is an excellent teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge of Scripture. His notes are an invaluable web resource.

David Mays

David Mays is one of those people that amaze me because he reads more widely than I do. He’s taken it a step further and actually makes digests of the books he reads available on his web site – click on the Book Notes button and you’ll have a wealth of information at your fingertips.

Probe Ministries

Probe and the folks associated with it are a fountain of information on current issues facing our culture and Christian worldview. When I was a singles pastor I brought one of their Mind Games Conferences to our church and had attendees from all over the Atlantic seaboard. Kerby Anderson is one of the smartest people I know and a gifted communicator on Christian perspectives of current issues.
