He's at it again

One of my least favorite former presidents is at it again. Jimmy Carter has been drifting away from orthodox theology for a long time. This time he's re-defined the Gospel.

    ahhhh my friend,

i find myself in a different place - finding more and more respect for what i once thought was our most innocuous president. i see him speaking out against shifting american values (it never used to be ok to torture) and giving voice to the most profound least of these category we have today (the Palestinians) - particularly when that message isn't getting through the north american media... and even though this isn't a good carear move.

i also don't see him redefining the gospel. the gospel is. i do see him questioning traditional evangelical beliefs... but what's wrong with that?

do traditional evangelicals really have it all figured out? and have they always? perhaps a bigger picture is worth a looksie?

    so...

do you think jesus really came to found a new religion? i thought jesus was jewish... btw, is God a christian? lol.

lets talk of Abraham - where was his faith found? ...a faith that was credited to him as righteousness. and did abraham know of Jesus? no? does his faith alter the gospel? no. but if abraham appeared to us today - umm, is it our job to obsess on wether he was in or out? would we try to save him? would we allow abraham to be a member of our church? or to preach? and if not - why not?

For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

if men and women's understanding are without excuse by just observing the physical universe - our own scriptures testify we have what we need to find God apart from many of the things evangelicals hold dear. like scripture.

perhaps it's time to find bigger categories for people. or stop putting people in categories all together. or perhaps it’s not people at all that we’re categorizing - but rather God himself. and His kingdom. it’s time to stop acting like we have God figured out. The Kingdom is not where we expect it.

    grace & peace
