The language of God

The comedian Flip Wilson used a character named Reverend Leroy, pastor of "The Church of What's Happenin' Now" to poke (rightful) fun at some of our ecclesiastical idiotsyncracies (that's intentionally mispelled : -) Where is Flip when you need him? Church Replaces “Amen” With “Booyah.

My question: "When did the people of God become afraid to use the language of God?"

Amen. Or should we say "am-ane'"? (Sorry I don't have a Hebrew of Greek font handy I enjoy thinking about this item. Seems to me like the term "booyah" is not used out of fear of using the language of God. I guess the question for me is whether use of the term is God honoring and if use of such unusual verbage is useful in truly drawing people closer to God. Ron F. <

You're thinking theologically - I like that. It gets at the heart of contextualization - what (in the culutre we're trying to reach) do we encourage and what do we resist and/or condemn?

Keep up the good work. Bertrand Russell was reported to have said "Most Christians would rather die than think. In fact, most do." I'm glad you're providing solid evidence against his blanket indictment.

Language of God? When He speaks with me he uses english. I am still wondering why it isn't King James English like he wrote it in the original.
