A new set of "Joel-isms"
My church has a team of pastors - Mark Batterson is the lead pastor and each of the four sites has a site pastor. Joel Schmidgall is the site pastor for the Ballston site where I attend. The pastors share the preaching load and Joel pulled his weight on Sunday when he spoke on "How to Fast". Joel has a self-deprecating sense of humor and an ability to "turn a phrase". That's probably because he's also a fan of the Chicago trifecta - Cubs, Bulls and Bears.
Sunday he delivered a couple of new "Joel-isms" that are worth chewing on for a while.
"Fasting is not dieting. It is spiritual. If it were about dieting, Hollywood would be the most spiritual place on earth."
"When you pray for your wife you gain God's perspective on your marriage. When you pray with your wife you gain God's perspective on your wife."
You can hear the webcast sermon here while its on the church's home page. Its part of the "How..." series that we're in the middle of right now. It was a challenge to self-discipline in the form of fasting during Lent. I'm not telling what I'm going to give up : -)
