Ever notice how....?
As Andy Rooney or Jerry Seinfeld might say in observing the evangelical sub-culture "Ever notice how people who call themselves 'Christian' have a special language that needs a dictionary to translate?" Mark Waitz has linked to a couple of blogs that point out the (IMHO) absolute absurdity of the way we Christians sometimes talk with/to/about each other.
I've experienced (as in "I've been on the receiving end") some of this special code. When you're a pastor and someone says "God gave me a word for you" (#4 on Mark's list), it usually means that they want to "straighten you out" on something they disagree with but don't have a proof text. God in this instance is the "trump card". There is simply no response, no matter how holy, that will trump that one. I have a word for them too, but it probably doesn't come from God and I'm not going to hide behind His name in order to deliver it (Just kidding - I'm channeling the former Marine part).....
Thanks Mark, for giving us permission to laugh at ourselves.
Have you got any to add to the list?
