Thoughts on corporate worship
One of the discussion lists to which I belong is a church music list. Quite often the list gets on the topic of worship styles - what is right, what is wrong, how one church is different from another, you get the picture. Usually it's pretty benign, with a good sharing of ideas and philosophies, with plenty of background to support both.
In another iteration of that discussion, someone sent a link to this article, which is one of the better comments I have seen on the subject. I particularly liked his reference to singing the Psalms, and Isaac Watts specifically, because I just bought "The Psalms and Hymns of Isaac Watts" and was delighted to see his transcriptions of the Psalms into verse that can be sung to familiar tunes.
