Friends
When I was in seminary I had the opportunity to meet some great people who added a lot to my life. Their friendship over the years has meant I have people who "know me well and love me anyway." One class was memorable not for the professor but for my friend Dik. I noticed on the first day that as the prof was lecturing, Dik had his Bible open to the passage and was writing in the margin - or at least that's what I thought at first. Then I noticed he kept switching pens. I thought "Why doesn't he just get one that's full of ink and use it all through the class." I finally asked, and he turned his Bible so I child see it. The margin had a great cartoon that captured the "big idea" of the passage perfectly. It turns out Dik Lapine is a first rate cartoonist. You've probably seen his cartoons if you read any Christian magazines like Leadership or Christianity Today.
Fast forward because its been quite a few years since that day. I still use the cartoons Dik did for our junior church teaching on Jonah. Dik has an Evangelical Press Association award for one of his cartoons. I thought you might like to see some of his "stuff". I hope it makes you laugh as much as it does me. Enjoy!
Loved this one from The Lutheran. It reminds me of the years working with single adults. Dik captured it perfectly.
Dik finds humor in the most unusual places. I love the one on page 5 of this newsletter.
This copy of The Joyful Noiseletter has a contribution from Dik on the bottom right of page 3.
This one shows how versatile his humor as blog readers contribute captions to one of his offerings.
Oh, and thanks Dik. You still make me laugh, friend!
