New Life, in more ways than one
I've had some interesting opportunities to speak at churches here in the mid-Atlantic region. Some were clearly on the "downside" (Undertaker) of the church life cycle. Others were clearly on the upside (Risktaker). Today I spoke at one that has renewed its vision thanks to a careful partnership with another church. The last time I spoke at Westmoreland Community Church it was clear that there was the proverbial "elephant on the air hose" as it struggled to be a viable church. Thanks to a visionary older man new life has been breathed into the once dying church - in more ways than one. A carefully considered merger with multi-site New Life Christian breathed new life into the once dying church and this morning I saw a different and more alive church. Its drawn some notice in the McLean/Tyson's Corner area, which you can read about here. I had a chance to see my friend Ron Furgerson, the McLean campus pastor who will soon be turning over the reins of leadership to pastor Dwaine Darrah. The creative arts crew led by Frank (his picture is in the Connection article) did a great job of "setting the table" for the message with a video that has the tagline "There is a God. I am not Him."
It was a good Sunday...... how was yours?
