New to my reading list
I am always looking for books that I need to add to my reading list on the off chance I'll wander into the library or book store and not be able to name anything that interests me. Not really - actually I'm always looking for books to put on my reading list. These are a couple that are either on my reading list or on my night stand currently.
- Todd Bolsinger has a thought provoking blog entry at "Is the Head the Problem, or the Problem the Head?" I don't buy ALL the stuff that's out there on leadership but The Starfish and the Spider looks like an intriguing read with some readily redeemable insights.
- My adviser also recommended Church Unique to me, which I am devouring. Its another one where I don't buy everything - Mancini throws strategic planning under the bus for no good reason - but it is as close as anything I've seen to articulating how each church should discern its own unique context.
- "Free" is also good - especially when it comes to books. I use Libronix Digital Library when preparing messages and for study. David Turner authored the Matthew commentary in the Cornerstone Biblical Commentary. Its available as a free download at the logos.com web site. The download includes Darrell Bock's commentary om Mark as well. You sure can't beat the price! David Turner is a first rate scholar. I heard him present a paper on Matthew 18 at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary a couple of years ago and was impressed with both his devotion to the Word and his scholarship. If you use Libronix, its a SUPER deal.
That's what's new on my reading list. Got any really good recommendations? After all, I might wander into a library or bookstore.....
