A few New Year's resolutions

I'm still putting my New Year's resolutions in writing but one of them is to read more this year, especially things I want to read. I read somewhere around 120 to 150 books a year during and after seminary. Prof Hendricks gave us the outline for a disciplined reading program. It began with our "area of primary interest" and worked outward, reading less intensively as we moved out of our professional area of interest. This was pretty disciplined and still allowed me to read quite a bit for fun.

My stack for the new year has already begun - I've got them sitting on the corner of my desk. As soon as I finish the last of my dissertation, these are where I'm going to begin.

From top to bottom:
    Mark Batterson's Wild Goose Chase
DA Carson's Becoming Conversant with the Emerging Church
Thomas Boswell's Why Time Begins on Opening Day
Stetzer and Putman's Breaking the Missional Code
DeYoung and Kluck's Why We're Not Emergent
    Randy Pope's The Prevailing Church

I'll undoubtedly "cheat" and read Boswell's essay (also the title of the book) during spring training or on opening day. Batterson's Wild Goose Chase will be the first in the stack. If you haven't read his In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day you're really missing out.

Now I'm off to finish the last part of my dissertation. If you're reading this, it wouldn't hurt to offer prayer for my concentration.....
