How this works

First let me offer an apology. For some reason the web managing software we're using for this blog has mysteriously seen fit to transpose characters to wingdings, so several previous entries now appear as gobbledygook on the web page. All I can say is, "We're working on it." Until we get it resolved, I'm sorry.

I helped a client recently in the area of social networking analysis. It allowed me to do some research on the phenomena behind social networking sites like
Linkedin and Facebook. Linkedin is the "professional" social networking site. Facebook is more for friends and less formal. I've posted profiles on both Facebook and Linkedin. Both sites are easy to use - my mom even has a Facebook page - and she's been "friended" by a lot of people!

The social networking research prompted my thinking - about how God connects people. It's nearly impossible to untangle all of the connections but......
(1) This blog is hosted by a friend (Jim) at a church in northern MI (hence the name "Destination North"). We bonded immediately because he and his good friend serve a big God - and therefore they dream big dreams.
(2) I was introduced to them by another friend (Doug) I originally met in Dallas back in the 90's.
(3) I spoke this Sunday at the Young Adult service of a church in Maryland.
(4) One of the first people I was introduced to there is now teaching at a Bible School in Singapore.
(5) The person now shepherding the Young Adult ministry mentioned my teaching (I'm just assuming it was positive  (Kevin is on the right in this picture) to the leader of the youth group. The youth group leader asked me to teach on spiritual gifts and administer a spiritual gifts assessment to the youth group.
(6) When I was pastoring in Michigan (see also #1) I had the best staff EVER, one of which is now on staff as Worship Arts Director (Greg)at a church in Lansing. Through that connection I'm speaking there next month.
(7) In mid-August I'm preaching in Woodbridge, filling the pulpit for a friend (Tim) who also graduated from Dallas Seminary (see "Dallas" in #2).
(8) If you look at my profile on Linkedin you'll see Dallas Seminary - which was the common link that led me to a friend (Ken Quick)  who invited me to teach Practical Ministry courses at Capital Seminary......

I think you're seeing how "social networking" works. Maybe you'll be the next "connection" - I'd love to speak at your church.
