Midweek potpourri
I read the Washington Times on a somewhat regular basis. They are the only paper I know of that has a competent religion writer. The Washington (com)Post's religion section is a JOKE and Sally Quinn should be sentenced to whatever you get for lying about being "objective". Julia Duin's columns are always interesting, even when her journalistic stand offishness leaves me with no idea how she sees the world - that's not always a bad thing but in this case I really dislike it. I was intrigued by her column "Book imagines modern Jesus"., the story of a new book titled "Journeys with the Messiah". A second story in the "Faith" section was titled "21st Century Messiah." and it led me to the photographer's web site, which I thought was intriguing. You can find it at his "Journeys Project" web site.
If you come 'round here often you're already aware of my current interest in what's going on in Afghanistan. This article from the Washington Post ("Less Peril for Civilians, but More for Troops") made my blood boil.
It wouldn't have made me quite so angry except I had just read "Ambushed Marines' Aid Call 'Rejected'" It sounded a little like "Blackhawk Down."
This one doesn't make it even but it sure helps.
Monday Morning Insight had a link to a post on "Counting What Counts." Since my post on metrics drew so many comments, I thought some might find the comment thread on this post interesting.
That's it for mid-week.
